Late November. Covid surging. Vermont isn’t immune. A summer and fall of work continued with the forest service, (plenty of secret spots to get into that water and sun) now the winter off. 😒. Two close Philadelphia friends/collaborators both named Andy moved
here. Whoa. A bunch of projects before the snow flies. Skirting the house with dad. Having no trespass orders delivered by the police due to someone on the property. Forever working on lighting. The wood fired hot tub is heaven. Bought a generator for back up power & heat. Jolly hump ups show up in November. The bird feeder is a hit with sushi. Freezer and cupboards are full and now hunkering down and avoiding the covididiot tourists still coming here putting our rural town at risk. After a winter that never ended, a spring that was non-existent, and summer that is consistently hotter than normal
in the mountains - its seems to be about just working around the tin can - planting trees to regain privacy and getting the wild flowers going on the septic system and well. We’re consintanly over run by covid tourists - so time at the lake and river has been impossible. Thankfully the Forest Service work continues and has allowed for me to find remote spots where I can find solitude in the woods, sun, and water. Exteriror deck with wood fired hot tub finished, along with steel railings. Have planted about 55 trees and a close to 75 perennials (got to love the southern VT perennial swapper group!) deck furniture made out of recycled milk jugs. skirting the house before snow flies the next on the punch list, and designing a pitched roof to harness rain water for the gardens as to not constantly have to pump the well. Add a parking spot near the house and moved the 20’ container into its final spot. Will be a shed and eventually a sauna in 1/2 of it. Smattering of images from the past few months. Xmas. Snow. Sushi. Forest service work sites. Xmas gifts. First spring blooms. Railings. A return to academic dance, and academia on the whole. New ink.
Dad finished up the shiplap doors and ceiling. Insulating the water filtration tank. Remnants of a Governors Instituee 4th of July puppet samba parade. Washer & dryer!
The just right kitchen table. And all awards deserve to be in the bathroom. The hollowmen was the first piece I ever instigated. And of course..... sushi. finding treasures dating back to 1992 & 1996 that have been packed away since before Colorado. Built in the headboard. Air exchanger, heat pump, and pellet stove all installed. Painting exterior section by section. The garden exploding. Sushi with her Marimekko pillow my mom made. Laurie & Gabe - friends since nursery school and 8th grade came to visit. Visits with former Franklin Pierce colleagues Nancy & Wendy, friends Maura Keefe and her man Mark (from UMD and jacob’s pillow) came to visit. Brother and aunt Charlotte made it to VT to check out the house. A large extra from Destino’s made to VT thanks to my cousin Jean. Things slowly finding their home Inside and out. Septic mound finally being installed.
Septic and pump tanks installed this past Friday. Wild flowers are in full swing and my fellow MFAIA member Patrick Brennan came to visit for a couple days with trips to Mass MoCA, Dot’s, Cup & Saucer, and Three Stones. Sushi flies in her dreams on rag rug made by my great grandmother MuMu. and Donnie is finishing up the steel railing posts for the deck.
